My Daddy-Do List
By Andy on 2 May 2005 the wee hoursCategory: The Boys
Not only do I now have a Honey-Do list when I get home, but Caleb also has his "Daddy-do" lists. On the list today was:
- Bowbuh (translation: blower). He wants for me to get down the leaf blower and try to pull the rope to crank it.
- Bowbuh (translation: trimmer/weed eater). This one's a bit tricky. The only way to know for certain that he wants the trimmer and not the blower is if the blower is already down. He likes to try to turn it on by pullling the handle.
- Mahmow (translation: lawn mower). He wants me to take him to see the lawn mower every afternoon. We take the cover off the engine and act like we're pouring gas in it. He then wants to push it across the yard.
- Dada Taw (translation: Daddy's car). He wants to sit in my car--not mama's car--and act like he's driving and changing the radio station.
- Hee Haw (translation: Nee Nor) (interpretation: ladder) How did he determine that the real name for a ladder is "nee nor." One of his books has a fire truck whose sire sounds like "nee nor nee nor." And since fire trucks always have ladders on them, he believes with all his heart that a ladder is called a "nee nor." So when Caleb says "hee haw", what he wants me to do is pull down the ladder going to the attic so he can climb up it. He can climb all the way to the top of the ladder without my help. Of course, I'm standing one rung below him the whole time.
- Peh Peh (translation: penny). He wants to get the pennies out of my car's ash tray and transfer them one by one to my car's cup holder.
Thus on a typical day, Tiffany tells me that Caleb will repeat a sentence over and over that goes a little something like: "Dada home bowbuh down start key." When I get home, he wants me to get down the blower, so he can try to start it with a key. He thinks everything must be started with a key.
In essence, Caleb is planning out my evening. I think he's going to be type-A just like his mom. Between Caleb and Tiffany, about the only plans I get to make is what color socks I'm going to wear.
