Reality TV Blues
By Andy on 13 January 2003 the wee hoursCategory: Personal The proliferation (big word, huh?) of reality televisions shows really has me wondering about the state of our culture. Think about it. Why is it that we are entertained by this stuff? We enjoy watching a man lie to 20 drooling women who think he's a millionaire when really he's a construction worker. We get a kick out of watching famous family members interact with another using F-words in rapid fire succession like an automatic weapon. We get a kick out of watching a few "what-ever-happened-to" TV stars from 10-15 years ago live together in a house, just to hear what they do and what they talk about. It's a real train wreck too. These shows were new and different and interesting a few years ago, but now they are really getting annoying.
I'd love to stay and talk about this...believe me, there's much more I'd like to say like how the Roman Empire began to fall when they started viewing "reality shows" at the colliseum. But, I'll leave it at that...besides, Survivor is on I don't want to miss it.
