I Wonder Why?

I wonder why no one wanted to sit next to me on the benches at Wal Mart this morning. There was a crowd standing around.

Could it be the four year old with the flu laying down on one bench with a 102 degree fever, glassy blood shot eyes, and red cheeks with chills that sounded like he will cough up a lung at any minute?

Maybe it was the fact that my boob was exposed while Andrew was eating right there in the middle of Wal Mart. Normally I try to be discreet, but it was either feed him or have him scream. He had just gotten four shots at the doctor’s office for his well baby visit, and he was grumpy about it. The pharmacy staff kept shooting me evil looks while he was screaming.

Breastfeeding in public is always a little odd. I’ve encountered two extremes. People either stare in disbelief and stay away, or women come up and watch while telling me how wonderful breastfeeding is. One lady stood by me in a restroom lounge for ten minutes watching me feed Andrew reminiscing about the time she nursed her babies twenty years ago.

I don’t feel bad that everyone else stood far away from us while glaring at us like we had a plague. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I wasn’t going home without Tamiflu! My prescriptions were filled in record time. I think they wanted us out of there.
