No Longer Nocturnal

Andrew achieved a major milestone last night. He slept through the night for the first time.

Andrew has been a great sleeper from the beginning, and over the past four weeks he has only gotten up once to eat each night. We weren’t complaining at all with a schedule like that.

I fed him at 9 pm last night, and he woke up at 6 am ready to eat this morning! Unbelievable! He is only eight weeks old, so he is doing great.

It helps that Andrew is huge and doesn’t have to eat as often, but we are also big believers in the Babywise schedule. Babywise is a little controversial. People either love it or hate it, but it has worked really well for us with both kids. Basically it is a way to get the baby on a schedule so that life is predictable. Given that I’m a strong Type A personality I really need a schedule.

The biggest difference in the first and second baby is that I didn’t mind middle of the night feedings this time around. I think my perspective is much different. This time I realize how fast each phase goes by and I don’t want to miss it while wishing the next stage would start. There is something about feeding a baby in the middle of the night when things are calm and quiet that is so special.

I don’t know if he’ll keep up the sleeping through the night for now, but if he doesn’t I’m going to cherish the time he needs me even if it’s at 2 am. The day will come too soon where he doesn’t need mommy as much, and it makes me sad thinking about it.

  1. Glad that all is going so well with you guys and Andrew; and that you can get as much sleep as you can! It goes by way too fast! EmmaLeigh hit a big milestone that we were not expecting yet…she lost her first tooth! She thought it was great; i wanted to cry! Hope everything is still going well for Caleb and that the surgery was exactly what he needed.

  2. Sounds like we need to get Andrew and Erin together so he can teach her a thing or two! You lucky, lucky mommy!
