Segway
By Andy on 1 November 2005 late morningCategory: Interesting
Have you ever heard of a Segway? It’s a little two-wheel scooter that you stand on to ride. It’s not a normal scooter. The wheels aren’t inline; instead, they’re next to each other. It’s balanced by a gyroscope, so if you stand still you won’t fall over. If you lean forward, it moves forward. If you lean backwards, it goes backwards. The more you lean the faster it goes. It’s really cool. “Did you see the picture?”
Tiffany and I got to test drive a Segway the other day, and it was a blast. Our instructor told us that the trickiest part is simply trusting that it won’t tip over. It’s an uncomfortable feeling because you’re emotions are saying, “Hey pal, any minute now, your face is going to make an unfriendly connection with the floor.” Yet once you relax and realize that you’re not going to fall, it’s so much fun.
The issue of trust is a big issue. God has told us that He wants us rest. The Bible says to “Cease striving and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). But before we can rest, we must trust Him. Trusting may feel awkward. Your emotions can lie, and they often do. They tell us that the only ones we can trust is ourself. They tell us that if we depend on God, we’ll fall flat on our face. It takes a step of faith to become fully confident that God is trustworthy, and that He won’t let you fall. Then you will be able to relax and trust him.
