Stomach Virus Blues
By Tiffany on 19 January 2006 early morningCategory: The Boys
Yesterday was a rough day around our house!
Andy and I couldn’t sleep Tuesday night. We were feeling a little off. At 5 am Andy got up and I could hear violent things happening in the bathroom. I reached over to cut on his electric blanket so he could get back in a warm bed, and when I sat up I knew I had the same thing he had. Thank goodness for a home with two bathrooms.
Andy came to find me, and to see why I hadn’t come in to check on him. We crawled back into bed and wondered how we would be able to take care of a two year old when we were both dying. Five minutes later Caleb woke up.
It was hard. Caleb had to take care of himself most of the day. Andy and I stayed on the sofa most of the day semi-unconscious. Here are a few of the highlights that we vaguely remember:
- Every time Andy said his stomach hurt Caleb would say, “Daddy need to go poo poo”.
- At one point Caleb had the vacuum cleaner out using the hose to vacuum Andy and me while we were out of it.
- Caleb was saying something about using a knife and scissors, but neither of us could drag ourselves up to see what he was doing. We hoped at least it was a butter knife he had.
- Thank goodness for The Little People movie by Fisher Price. That bought us an hour of peace and quiet. Caleb probably wishes we were sick more often since we never let him watch any TV.
- At one point Caleb had a 30-minute melt down lying on the foyer floor screaming. We were actually able to rest while our child was screaming. I know it sounds bad, but we were doing the absolute best we could.
Thankfully this morning we are feeling much better. Caleb isn’t sick yet, and maybe he’ll stay well. It’s amazing how you can go from wishing you were dead to feeling well in a 24 hour period.

Thank God you are both okay. I definitely hope Caleb doesn’t get sick as you and Andy’s ordeal didn’t sound too pleasant.
— Yannick Jan 19, 12:07 PM #My duaghter has had it for three days. The first and second day she insisted on going to school but today 2/15/06 she said NO WAY! I am not sure what is going on but a large amount of kids have been getting this since last week around town. I have not been sick yet from it. I would like to know what is going on. I have not seen this “virus” since I was a kid. hmmmm!
— Cathy Feb 15, 11:14 AM #I am glad that you and your husband are doing well. Kids for some reason really do well when parents are sick.
