Strabismus Surgery
By Andy on 21 February 2007 late morningCategory: The Boys
Tomorrow is a big day around our house. Caleb is finally having his strabismus surgery, which is an eye muscle surgery to correct the misalignment in his eyes. We’ve known it was coming since he turned three, so it’ll be nice to get it behind us.
His surgery is scheduled for Thursday the 22nd at 12:20 at Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta.
The hardest part will be telling Caleb about it this afternoon. He has no idea that he is having surgery. I checked out some library books about kids going to the hospital to help me when I tell him. We didn’t want him to start worrying before he needed too so we put off telling him to the last minute. Hopefully he’ll take the news well.
This type of surgery often requires a second surgery to align the eye muscles correctly. We are really hoping Caleb will not need more surgery in the future!
Please say a prayer for his surgery to be a success, and that he will not be too uncomfortable during the recovery process. Thank you.

Ouch, sounds rough. Will be praying for a speedy recovery.
— Nathan Smith Feb 21, 02:25 PM #Will certainly be praying for the little guy Andy. I’m sure everything will go well.
— Yannick Feb 21, 11:43 PM #By now we have heard the surgery is over, but we won’t know how successful for a month. We will keep you all in our prayers. Love, Grandy
— Pappy Feb 22, 06:32 PM #The surgery went well. He was so brave. His eyes are obviously very sore, and he can hardly open his eyes. We’re keeping a damp rag on his eyes all afternoon. He wasn’t happy about having to take his medicine, but he did. Next month we’ll find out if the surgery fixed it.
— Andy Feb 22, 07:31 PM #Just wondering how everything turned out for Caleb? Our son is scheduled for the same surgery on March 30. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. He will be turning 4 this Wednesday. He got glasses @ 20 months, later prism was added now…surgery.

I was looking through some of your entries from a few weeks ago, and saw that your son had Strabismus surgery recently. My daughter had this surgery 7 months ago, and she’s nearly fully recovered. You can see a little scar tissue left on the whites of her eyes if you look really close, but she’s basically healed nicely.
How is Caleb doing?
