The End of an Era

Caleb got the big red cast off over a week ago, but I’ve waited and waited to write this journal.

Here is a quick recap. Caleb has sucked his thumb since he was in the womb. We have an ultrasound picture of him sucking his left thumb at 19 weeks old. Well a month ago he broke his left arm, and that meant no thumb sucking for him. He only sucked his thumb while riding in the car or sleeping, but he really depended on the thumb during those two activities.

Everyone told us that 21 days can break a habit or create a new habit, but part of me thought Caleb might go back to his thumb as a way to celebrate the end of the cast. The cast came off after 25 days, and 11 days later he still hasn’t put it back in! I think he’s cured.

Part of me has wondered why he couldn’t have broken the arm before he did all of the permanent damage to the bone above the front teeth? Look’s like braces are in our future, but at least he won’t be made fun of in third grade for sucking his thumb!

  1. I am glad that he did not start back!

But, in his defense, he was genetically destined to suck his thumb since you did the same thing!

    Remember your braces??????????

    Love you! MOM
