The Makings of a Perfect Day
By Tiffany on 3 October 2007 mid-afternoonCategory: The Boys
It’s amazing how simple things impress Caleb so much. He experienced almost the perfect day today on what seemed like a normal Wednesday to me.
It all started last night. He almost couldn’t go to sleep because he was so excited. He knew that the next morning would be his day to be the line leader at preschool. Apparently this is a really big deal when you are four. Being the line leader also means you have show and tell. He finally gave in to sleep with his erupting volcano lava lamp tucked in the show and tell bag.
He awoke to the smell of scones coming from the oven. He loves to wake up to the smell of a baked good in the oven. Then off to school. He was the first one there for his big day.
Caleb loves every second of preschool. He loves the rules, procedures, routines, teachers, homework, and even the soap they wash their hands with.
I came to pick him up a few minutes early so I could watch him lead the line down the hall back to his classroom. He looked so proud. His teachers said the volcano light was a huge hit. They even cut the lights off to watch it erupt. He said he told them everything he knows about volcanoes. The smile of his face was huge as he told me all about the day. He even got to play bad guys and bears with his two best friends on the playground.
The day got even better when he realized I had picked up 15 new library books that we had put on hold. We snuggled up on the couch and read all afternoon.
The ending to the day was just as good as the beginning. Wednesday night is church dinner night. This is Caleb’s favorite meal of the week. He ate from the kids line (mac and beef) and the adult line (chicken pot pie…his very favorite food). He finished it off with strawberries and a brownie. Of course he had to have a bite of mom’s cake too.
More new books at bedtime snuggled up with dad made the perfect end to a busy day.
It’s amazing how simple life is when you are just 4. It’s even more amazing how I appreciate the simple things more seeing them through Caleb’s eyes. He is such a blessing!

Hi…I was just “googling” the word “Wayne’s Coating” because my husband inadvertently messed up while doing our kids’ bathroom and your site came up (i’m thinking because of the renovation pics). I couldn’t help but look at your site…amazing. I just wanted to let you know that your journals radiate love and contentment. Although I’m a stranger and don’t even know you, you are blessed. The way your husband speaks about you is truly something. Remember that next time you want to be angry with him. :) Thanks for letting people look.

Seeing your children happy and excited is the best part of being a parent.
Being a grandmother to Caleb…......... Words can not express how I love that little boy and love being his grandmother,,,,,,,,,,, Not to mention how very proud I am to be your mother and how much I love you! You are such a wonderful mother!
