Three Thoughts

Here are three random stories that involve Caleb from today. It’ll give you a glimpse into his little world.

First, I am driving a rental car. (Side note- smoke pouring out of the cigarette lighters in my car sent it to the garage for a few days). The Pacifica warranty includes a free rental car during any service to my car. I had my choice when I got to Enterprise rental car. They had a Tahoe, Suburban, and Dodge Neon. They were all covered, so I got to pick. For most people this would be easy. Not me…while the big SUV’s look nice of course I picked the Dodge Neon. I am a very nervous parker, so I knew I didn’t stand a chance of parking anything larger than my Pacifica.

Caleb thinks this Dodge Neon is the best car ever. Not exactly how I feel about it. I had to put his car seat in the middle to reduce the risk of him dying if we were hit from the side. This car is so tiny that his legs are in the front seat on the center console by me. He wanted to play in the car, and all of sudden he started screaming, “Mommy, what’s this?” He was all excited to find something he’d never seen before in a car. I laughed when I realized that my child would grow up not knowing what a handle to roll the window up and down looks like. I didn’t know they still made cars without power windows.

On another note, Caleb had a panic attack at the library today. We were in our usual comfy chair reading our 100th book that happened to be a book about teeth. It mentions in there about your baby teeth falling out. Without thinking I looked at Caleb and said, “ One day when you’re about 8 all of your teeth will fall out”. His eyes got huge and started tearing up and he screamed,” I don’t want my teeth to fall out…non, non no!” Then I realized this does sound strange and scary so I explained the whole process to him. He calmed down a little.

Nap update: Most of you know Caleb has been too busy playing pretend to nap lately. Well today during naptime he was pretending to play paintball with his imaginary friend Boots. I think a church party inspired him over the weekend where he was exposed to paintball for the first time. When I opened his door he was spinning around on his knees shooting his gun in every direction. I do not know how to convince him that he needs to let his mind rest during naptime. That is without a doubt his most creative time of the day.

There you go. This was a little sampling of life with Caleb today.

  1. Love the rental car story. I can picture a little kid discovering all kinds of neat stuff within reach in a car as small as a Dodge Neon.

The teeth story is also very funny. I’m glad you got him calmed down.

Just thought I’m comment on such a funny post with such a great category name.

By the way, I hope they get your car fixed. A smoking car is never good.
