Under Attack

Caleb is having a tough time adjusting to springtime in Georgia. One of the best parts so we thought about leaving Texas for Georgia was being around all of the big trees. We were so wrong. Andy developed allergies when we moved to Texas. Now Caleb developed allergies when we moved to Georgia. And of course Andy still has allergy problems here.

Springtime in Georgia is unlike anything I have ever seen before. There has been an inch of pollen on everything. You can see it in the air when the wind blows. Now the pines trees are blooming so there is green stuff in addition to pollen.

Caleb got really sick three weeks ago when the pollen first started. The doctor said, “Welcome to Georgia”. He warned me the first spring can be really hard on a child after a big move. Since then we have been to the doctor six times. I have had nine prescriptions filled for Caleb in three weeks. We were back at the doctor this morning after a horrible weekend of allergy problems. Caleb is now on 4 antibiotics (a total of 6 times a day), and he has to use a breathing machine four times a day with a mix of two antibiotics. Our life feels like it revolves around medicine and breathing treatments.

We can’t go anywhere without people staring at Caleb. He has this barking dog cough unlike anything I have ever heard. We hear it all night long…well I do. Andy has a great “gift” of being able to sleep through anything. Caleb isn’t contagious, but others don’t know that, so we stay at home more lately.

The doctor smiles and tells me that Caleb should clear up by the end of May, but that feels like a long time away. I know he is smiling because he’ll be able to take a nice long vacation this summer just off the money our insurance company is sending him and co pays I’m paying!

  1. Well my daughter, it is money very much well spent even if the doctor does get to take a vacation off your co-pays(which I doubt).

Maybe you need to make a trip to Tallassee and try the air here. It might do wonders for Caleb.

    I Love you!
