The Refreshing Personal Site of Andy Knight and His Beloved Family

YouVersion

7 August 2007

For the last six weeks, I’ve been working with Terry Storch and the LifeChurch.tv team on a really amazing web site called YouVersion.com. Well, today the “Alpha” version is being released to a limited number of people by invitation only.

What is YouVersion?

YouVersion is a Bible web site where you not only read and study the Bible in various translations, but you can also contribute your own content.

For example, while you’re reading a passage from Proverbs such as “Train up a child in the way that he should go,” you can upload a video of you teaching your child to ride a bicycle.

Or while reading The Lord’s Prayer in the book of Matthew or Luke, you post your own prayer. Or you can keep a daily journal. Or you can attach a link to another web site.

You can make the content that you add public or private. Or you can allow just your family or a certain group of people to see it. Really, the sky’s the limit. There are at least 100 different ways to use YouVersion.

I am praying that God will use this incredible site for His glory and fame.

Work Done:

My core responsibilities in YouVersion started out as mainly writing Javascript behaviors, but I’ve also assisted in PHP programming, CSS layout and even page designs such as the home page dashboard, sign up page, sign in page, and the 1-year Bible reading plan page)

  2. Thanks David, Likewise I love your work at National Community Church. That site is unbelievable! I’ve been to it on occasions to get an injection of inspiration. Thanks for the comment!

  3. YouVersion is looking great. I can’t wait to try it (hint hint). Any chance of incorporating the features that I’m looking for in an online Bible resource? See the thread linked to as my website.

  4. Chris,

On the Godbit forum you mentioned you’d like to see an online Bible that incorporated…

    [QUOTE]

    1) Bible-in-three-years (about a chapter a day)

    2) Loads the new passage daily (rather than needing to click and find the next passage).

    3) NIV, HCSB, NASB, or ESV.

    4) Contains a good verse-by-verse commentary.

    5) A place to journal and save thoughts. These can be archived on the website (and later backed up), or emailed back to me daily/weekly.

    [END QUOTE]

I know for sure that it will contain numbers 3-5. Not sure about the first two, but the first two sound like a good idea as well. I’ll pass your thoughts along.

  5. Thanks, I appreciate that. That would just make it perfect for me, and my wife too, actually. We’ve been looking for a resource that we can both use.
